Awareness and Training Programme on Autism Spectrum Disorder
15th September 2010: The programme was aimed to create awareness about Autism among the Special Educators, Resource Teachers of Education Department, Psychiatrists, Rehabilitation Professionals, Parents and N.G.Os dealing with Persons with Disabilities.
The programme was aimed to create awareness about Autism among the Special Educators, Resource Teachers of Education Department, Psychiatrists, Rehabilitation Professionals, Parents and N.G.Os dealing with Persons with Disabilities. Dr Parasuram Ramamoorthy, Formerly Professor of Theatre Arts, Madurai Kamaraj University and Vice Chair, International Association, Theatre for Autism was a Resource Person for the Programme. In his session, he dealt with various aspects of Autism and different kinds of Intervention Techniques. The session consists of three components, these are Lectures, Demonstration and Interactions.
This awareness programme is essential for all the Teachers and Parents as they have to deal with the Children with Special needs in a right direction. Since Inclusive Education System introduced by the Government in the State, all Stake holders should be responsible for providing all the support to meet the needs of Children with Special needs. An integrated effort by all concerned is necessary to meet the challenges and requirements of the Disabled Person.
Inspection of N.G.Os working in the field of disability rehabilitation, Social activists, Schools, Training Centres, etc., in the State of Meghalaya have been conducted by the office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities for construction, co-operation, co-ordination and collaboration for achieving the goal of full implementation of the P.W.D. Act 1995 in the interest for the welfare of the disabled. Further, to help in formulating policies towards achieving the above mentioned goals.
