Success Stories of Ewarika Passah, School and Centre for the Hearing Handicapped, Laitumkhrah, Shillong
Ewarika Passah was admitted in School and Centre for the Hearing Handicapped Children in 2007 when she was 5 years old diagnosed with Bilateral Severe to Profound Hearing Loss. She was admitted to class Nursery for a thorough intervention and support. She used to be very quiet, likes to be isolated and also exhibits temper tantrum very often. Her span of attention and concentration was just adequate and at times she becomes restless and withdraws from any task that she does. She communicates only through gesture. However, with proper intervention in the school and support from the Special Educators, Ewarika had shown much of improvement.
She began to respond to all activities given to her and started to make lots of friends in the school as well as in the Hostel (Bethany Society). Her IQ was found to be very sharp and she did well in all the academic and co-curricular activities without being detained every year. When she was about 9 years of age it was found that she began to express her thoughts and ideas on drawing many beautiful pictures. Henceforth, with the guidance, support and encouragement of the teachers she got motivated and began to draw the finest pictures of the mermaid, Barbie doll, cartoon characters, and now finally she can draw any human figure exactly as it is within a very short time. Moreover, she also loves sports and Creative Art. She won many prizes in the drawing competition and sports too both in and outside the school. Her creative mind and her finest hands are extraordinarily superb!
At present, Ewarika Passah is in class VIII (Eight) and takes part in all the school activities. On 11th May 2016 Ewarika Passah took part in the Interaction Programme in Raj Bhavan with the Governor and she presented him a canvass crayon sketch of his picture done by her.
